This is 2026's Ship of the year!

Skipsrevyen's ship of the year 2026 winner is recognised for its energy efficiency, innovation and sustainability. Propulsion and manoeuvring systems are key parts in achieving that.

REM Pioneer is the official winner revealed at SMM in Hamburg. The ship is designed by Skipsteknisk and is currently under construction at Myklebust Shipyard for REM Offshore.

The SOTY winner is an Energy Subsea Construction Vessel developed for operations in both the offshore wind and oil & gas sectors. The vessel combines a range of technologies aimed at reducing energy consumption and emissions, supporting the industry's transition towards lower-emission operations. All of this is done without sacrificing operational performance.

– The winner combines lower emissions, innovative energy recovery technology, and strong Norwegian value creation. It is an investment that will help define the next generation of the offshore fleet, says Helge Martin Markussen, editor of Skipsrevyen.

– And unlike many other methanol-ready vessels, it can operate on methanol from day one if the fuel is available, paving the way for fully emission-free operations. Still, even when running on MGO (marine gas oil), emissions will be reduced by up to 50 percent.

Net-zero goal

The REM Offshore vessel sports a combination of solutions with the ambition of achieving net-zero emissions. This includes dual-fuel methanol engines, large battery energy storage systems, energy recovery from lifting operations, and a highly efficient propulsion and manoeuvring system supplied by Brunvoll.

Advanced offshore vessels like the REM Pioneer often conduct complex operations that demand high levels of station-keeping and manoeuvrability. Efficient propulsion and manoeuvring therefore play an important role in reducing overall energy consumption while ensuring safe and predictable vessel operation.

Geir Larsen, Executive Vice President Sales & Marketing at Brunvoll, comments:

– This ship deserves all the recognition it can get. REM Offshore, Myklebust Shipyard and Skipsteknisk have worked together to develop a vessel that sets new standards for efficiency and sustainability, which of course makes us even prouder to be a part of!

– Brunvoll has delivered a complete propulsion and manoeuvring package designed to give precise vessel control, high operational reliability and energy-efficient performance across a wide range of operating conditions, he continues.

The big stage

The ship of the year award highlights the successful collaboration between shipowner, designer, shipbuilder and suppliers in bringing an innovative vessel concept to life.

Brunvoll would like to congratulate REM Offshore, Myklebust Shipyard, Skipsteknisk and all project partners on this well-deserved recognition.

The strength of this year's field is further underscored by the fact that Brunvoll also supplied the propulsion and manoeuvring system for fellow nominee Nexans Electra. Together with Windea Carnot, the nominated vessels demonstrate the continued innovation taking place within the maritime industry.

The award was presented during SMM in Hamburg, providing an international stage to recognise one of the most innovative offshore vessels currently under construction.

Brunvoll's contribution

Brunvoll has supplied the vessel's complete thruster package.

  • Two 3,000 kW Brunvoll CPP thrusters
  • 1,500 kW CPP retractable thruster
  • 1,500 kW CPP combi thruster
  • 1,800 kW CPP tunnel thruster
