The process of selecting, acquiring, and installing the new machine included broad involvement from both operators and safety representatives. Their input ensured
that the solution fits real work needs and supports safe, practical, and efficient operation.
This way of working is a key part of Brunvoll’s HSE culture: employee involvement strengthens ownership, builds competence, and helps maintain safe and decent working conditions in line with UN Sustainable Development Goal 8. Operators report a noticeable difference: less manual handling, more automation, and a cleaner, quieter working environment. After two days of training, they were confident in operating the new interface and describe the machine as both efficient and enjoyable to use.

“With the new saw in place, we are better equipped than ever to meet increasing demand and stricter requirements in the maritime market.”

The new saw solves several long-standing challenges in the machining hall. The previous, lower machine often required operators to bend over, increasing the risk of back strain. The new, taller design provides a far more ergonomic working position. Noise levels are also considerably reduced, lowering the risk of hearing-related injuries and day-to-day fatigue.
Safety has been further strengthened through a range of modern features. Multiple sensors monitor operations and stop the saw immediately if anything appears unsafe. The open construction of the old saw increased the risk of cutting injuries; the new design offers far better protection. Automated functions reduce manual lifting and repetitive tasks, supporting both well-being and safer daily operations.
“The new saw will contribute to both increased capacity and increased operational reliability. This is part of our targeted focus on sustainable and future-oriented production,”
says Kjetil Hoem from Brunvoll’s production department.
Even though a saw is not typically seen as an environmental investment, the new technology introduces clear benefits. A new type of lubrication is considerably more environmentally friendly. The saw produces far less material waste due to more precise cuts, and its stable, automated operation lowers the energy losses that result from unplanned stops and restarts. The AutoFeed Control system optimises cutting speed and feed according to material and dimensions. This to ensure minimal waste, consistent quality and reduced energy consumption.
The new band saw is a concrete contribution to Brunvoll’s commitment to responsible, forward-looking and sustainable production. By improving both safety and environmental performance while increasing capacity, it strengthens the foundation for a modern and competitive manufacturing operation.
