How can Autonomous Operations and DP contribute to an even more sustainable business?

Use of autonomous operation to utilise the understanding of the vessel, the operation profile and the hybrid system for energy optimized operation.

Increased degree of autonomy in control systems contributes to smooth operations and reduced energy consumption

Increased Efficiency by use of Autonomous Operations and Hybrid Propulsion

  • Monitoring systems are essential in understanding the behavior of the vessel in operation.
  • By using Machine Learning we find the optimal operation profile.
  • Hybrid Propulsion with batteries is the flexible system ideal for energy efficient operation.
  • DP Systems have the ability to accurate positioning, speed and tracking.
Efficiency always pay off!

SEAOPS - Development project for Autonomous Operations

"Safe and Energy optimal Autonomous Operation of Ships" (SEAOPS), is an ongoing development project, with the longliner MS "Geir" as host for the pilot.

The project includes development of an advanced vessel simulator, with speed and position control of the vessel, closely connected to the Brunvoll DP development.

The benefits from this is energy efficiency and minimal loss of fish during line hauling through the moonpool.

Dynamic Positioning (DP-System)

DP has traditionally been widely used in offshore, but it also seems to be well on its way into aquaculture and fishing. North Salmon Service AS has Brunvoll DP-system in its new live fish carrier "Færøysund».

«When working close to large cages in exposed waters, we have to stay 8-10 meters from the cage during loading and unloading. During such working conditions, there is a need for DP system to keep the vessel in place in rough seas», says Jonny Hansen, in North Salmon Service AS. He believes that anyone who wants to operate in more exposed areas will need a DP system.

DP seems to be an important tool also for service vessels.  There is a growing interest in more advanced systems both for operation against the open sea cages and the more traditional cages in the fjords.

Brunvoll DP is a fully integrated part of the BruCon automation platform.
It is a compact system, easy to integrate into most vessel types.

Prepare your vessel for tomorrow's requirements with Brunvoll Hybrid PTO/PTI System

With our hybrid PTO/PTI propulsion system you are able to evolve with time and be ready for future requirements.

Hybrid Propulsion System is simply the use of two or more energy sources to run the propellers and cover the hotel load. The heart  in such a system is beside our efficient CP-Propeller system, a Brunvoll gearbox with PTO/PTI unit for efficient energy distribution.

An efficient propulsion system with PTO/PTI open the doors for all future fuel types like LNG, E-ammonia, Blue ammonia, Bio-methanol, Hydrogen, etc..

Our Hybrid PTI/PTO system allows for the highest energy efficiency provided the right energy sources are selected to serve the range of operational conditions from lying idle, sailing in silent zero emission mode, to the need for full power in heavy operations at sea. In PTO-mode the shaft generator is serving the hotel load from the main engines.

By adding batteries to the configuration you add further flexibility, efficiency and sustainability to the system. You will be able to run in pure battery green mode with silent operation and zero emission, and the batteries can also be used for peak shaving and redundancy.
