The new vessel, which will be stationed in Mehamn, is the largest RS has ever put into service. It features Brunvoll's DP0 system, which allows it to hold position in tough conditions, while Mar-El supplies the propulsion control system.
Installation and commissioning were carried out on board by a dedicated Brunvoll team, working closely with the crew and with support staff ashore.
– This is a vessel built for high speed, up to 30 knots, and that makes it particularly challenging to tune for DP operations. Small changes in propeller pitch produce an immediate response, so holding the vessel steady calls for a high degree of precision, says Dag Sverre Grønmyr, VP Engineering and Autonomy at Brunvoll.
Commissioning involved extensive testing of the interfaces to the propulsion system, thrusters, sensors and position references. The mathematical model behind the DP system was adjusted and refined to deliver stable positioning.
The hybrid system on board also comes from Brunvoll. Brunvoll Mar-El supplies the vessel's parallel hybrid system.
The delivery covers the Triton Energy Management System, DC switchboard, electric motors, inverters and batteries. It also includes the propulsion and manoeuvring controls: Triton CPP, thruster control, steering gear, and the BruCon DP and joystick system.
With energy management, propulsion control and positioning all coming from the same group, integration is far simpler. The crew also has a single point of contact for the life of the vessel – an advantage on a boat that has to perform in demanding northern conditions.
Vessels like these are space- and weight sensitive, and every kilo affects speed and efficiency. Brunvoll Mar-El's systems are built for exactly that: A minimal footprint, with no compromise on performance.

The delivery is a milestone for Brunvoll, marking the company's first DP system for RS.

It was also the crew's first experience of working with a DP system, and the feedback so far has been positive. They find the system easy to use, and it leaves room for further refinement.
Additional follow-up and fine-tuning on board is planned to get the most out of the system before the vessel enters full service.
This is the largest rescue vessel ever built for the Norwegian Sea Rescue Society (Redningsselskapet).
