The new vessel, which will be stationed in Mehamn, is the largest RS has ever put into service. Brunvoll's DP0 system allows it to hold position in tough conditions, while Mar-El supplies the propulsion control system.
Installation and commissioning were carried out on board by a dedicated Brunvoll team, working closely with the crew and with support staff ashore.
– This is a vessel built for high speed, up to 30 knots, and that makes it particularly challenging to tune for DP operations. Small changes in propeller pitch produce an immediate response, so holding the vessel steady calls for a high degree of precision, says Dag Sverre Grønmyr, VP Engineering and Autonomy at Brunvoll.
Commissioning involved extensive testing of the interfaces to the propulsion system, thrusters, sensors and position references. The mathematical model behind the DP system was adjusted and refined to deliver stable positioning.
The delivery is a milestone for Brunvoll, marking the company's first DP system for RS.
